Why we are doing this.
In the last 20 years an estimated 146,000 veterans have died by suicide. That's more than all of the combat related deaths dating back to the Korean war. P.T.S.D. is everywhere in the veteran community and suicide seems to be an unfortunate choice some of us chose to end the pain in stead of fighting on.
My name is Nick Rahn, Founder and President of Warriors Next adventure. I have another option that myself and many other veterans discovered to fight P.T.S.D.
Jiu-Jitsu!
Jiu-Jitsu teaches you to be in the moment. You can not think about the war, people lost or any other life's problems when you have a 200 lb guy on your back trying to choke you out. In the military we are taught that everything is life or death. When you train Jiu-Jitsu you are taught that it is ok to fail and to learn from your failures and improve. It has taught me that there is a solution to every problem and sometimes that solution is to tap and you ask your instructor for help. That is a metaphor for when life gets tough and you can't take it, you can tap and get some help.
P.T.S.D. vs Jiu-Jitsu will be a 50 day tour around the country in a Skoolie being built as we speak with 2 bunk beds for the 3 veterans on this tour and guests that will be traveling with us for a short time. We will be training and interviewing veterans with similar stories about how Jiu-Jitsu has saved their lives. Stories ranging from failed suicide attempts, military sexual trauma, severe depression and how Jiu-Jitsu gave them a way to work through life's problems on the mats. I will be training at 30 gyms around the country who will be hosting open mats during each visit to try to get the veteran community to try Jiu-Jitsu and an option. Once the dates and gyms are solidified I will be listing them below as well as making a Facebook event for each visit.
This documentary is a push to get veterans to give Jiu-Jitsu a chance and to inspire veterans to become the best versions of themselves. There is always a solution to every problem.
